This method of enhancing math skills is the creation of Sylvia Sampleton, who credits the Lord with giving her the vision in a dream. Sylvia Sampleton, a special education teacher for over 15 years in Prince Georges County, MD, observed that her students struggled with math concepts. She wanted to create a way for students to learn math that would be engaging as well as fun. When the vision of a game came to her in a dream, she was excited and knew she had to work to bring it to reality. SMS=Infinity uses innovative strategies and while having fun, students are forming a strong foundation needed for the mathematical concepts that increase at every grade level.
The idea of using a game made sense to her because aside from learning from her teachers and parents, she knew that her peers influenced how she learned math when she was young. Sylvia was able to test her product through an after school study at Highland Park Christian Academy where she recorded academic success with the students. She has also received positive feedback when she has presented at vending and marketing events. The game is targeted for grades K-7 and I like it because it has been a terrific flash review strategy in my home for my son in middle school.
