Unleashing Your Star Power Within 2017 was the ideal way to gear up for the summer season. Dr. Renee Starlynn Allen of Star Entertainment Group and Lady Nakia Wright of A Woman’s Voice hosted the event that was held at the Morrison Clark Historic Inn & Restaurant. It was a fabulous event and every woman in attendance seemed delighted to be in room. Star power resonated in the air from the many special moments and speakers. Elder Diahann Smith was the first speaker. Everything she said on star power was quotable. She said, “Our need to control is rooted in fear. You do this world no favor playing small.” and “Originality ain’t for quitters, it’s for the courageous.” When Elder Smith finished, she’d thrown the match into the kindling and the room was lit and lifted. Dee Jolley was the next speaker and she spoke about the importance of financial star power. Dawn Moss was next, her star power is rooted in her journey to being crowned Miss Black America 1996. She was both spirit-filled and inspiring. Other beautiful speakers and honorees included, famed photographer Jackie Hicks, Nakornsri Sintaisong of Queen Society Studio, couture designer Vivien Agbakoba and Mrs. Maryland International 2017, Dereky Martin-Hagler and Mrs. DC America 2017, Julie Cangialosi.

Karen Huger, of The Real Housewives of Potomac was the keynote speaker. Prior to her entrance we were delighted with an original song, I’m Unstoppable, by Nikea Marie. Before singing, she pointed to her husband standing in the rear (one of only 3 men allowed entry) and gave a back story tidbit of their marriage that made everyone laugh. Check her blog. When Karen Huger entered the room, everyone was excited, having a good time and dancing. Her words on the theme star power were grounded in lessons on faith she learned from her mother growing up on a farm. Karen Huger was gracious and allowed questions from the audience. Star Power 2017 concluded with the presentation of the soon to be released book Star Power: Let It Shine by Dr. Renee Starlynn Allen and celebration cake to mark the moment. The afternoon also included tasty food from the restaurant’s inn, too hard to resist accessories from exclusive vendors and designer swag bags packed with treats and gifts. In the end, it was a grand occasion and we left with our hearts blessed, our imaginations ignited and our energy stoked. Thanks and Love to the Star Hosts, Renee Starlynn Allen and Nakia Wright.
