The meteorologist said temps would be in the low 20’s, but wind chill would make it feel like 13°. Last Friday night, it did not matter to the scores of young people who bundled up and walked from the sanctuary of Highland Park to the construction site of the new sanctuary. A good blessing was that members of the construction team stayed late… with their butane heaters. And so after a song and prayer, markers were passed out and the students began to write.
Only God knows how life will blossom for the young people who wrote their scripture on the floor. The beauty is that whenever their thoughts turn to Highland Park, they will always know that on a cold night in February they wrote their favorite scripture and signed their name on the concrete floor of the church. God’s excellent Word is the Firm Foundation and they were blessed to record it on a new church foundation.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1Timothy 6:18-19
